[How To] : Jailbreak 6.1 Untethered With Evasi0n For iOS 6 iPhone 5, 4S, 4, 3GS, iPod Touch iPad

iphone 5 jailbreak evasi0n

The Evasi0n jailbreak utility has been released to provide and untethered jailbreak to all iOS 6 and iOS 6.1 devices. This is also the first jailbreak to be available for iPhone 5, making it a particularly exciting release for those who have been waiting for an iPhone 5 jailbreak.

Requirements

  • 5 minutes of your time!
  • A computer, running Windows (XP minimum), Mac OS X (10.5 minimum) or Linux (x86 / x86_64)
  • An iPhone, iPad or iPod running iOS 6.0 through 6.1 (you may check in Settings / General / About => Version)
  • A USB cable to connect the device to the computer

Important! Read me!

  • Backup your device using iTunes (or iCloud) before using evasi0n. If something breaks, you’ll always be able to recover your data.
  • Please disable the lock passcode of your iOS device before using evasi0n. It can cause issues.
  • Avoid all iOS and iTunes related tasks until evasi0n is complete. Why not just enjoy a brief break from the computer to stretch your legs?
  • If the process gets stuck somewhere, it’s safe to restart the program, reboot the device (if necessary by holding down Power and Home until it shuts down), and rerun the process.
  • If you get an error on OS X 10.8 saying that evasi0n can’t be opened, control-click (or right-click) the app and on the revealed context menu, choose ‘Open.’ On the ensuing dialogue box, choose ‘Open’ as well.

How To Jailbreak Step-by-Step :

Step 1: Download the latest version of evasion jailbreak from the links above and save it in a folder named “evasi0n” on your desktop.

Step 2: Double click the evasi0n zip file and extract the application to the evasi0n folder (Windows users). Navigate to the evasion application and launch it.

Windows users: Please launch the application as an Administrator. Right Click on the evasion.exe and select the “Run as Administrator” option.

Step 3: After launching evasi0n, you will be prompted to connect your iPod touch.

Step 4: Please disable the passcode as the jailbreak may fail, if the passcode is enabled (Settings -> General -> Passcode Lock On -> Turn Passcode Off).

Step 5: After the passcode is disabled, connect your iPod touch to the computer. evasi0n should detect your iPod touch and also mention the iOS firmware that is running on it. Click on the Jailbreak button.

After clicking on the Jailbreak button the tool will give a progress update on the various stages of the jailbreak process such as:

  • Retrieving information from the device to general jailbreak data
  • Preparing stage 1 jailbreak data
  • Injecting stage 1 jailbreak data
  • Waiting for device reboot (do not touch your device)
  • Waiting for device to be ready (do not touch your device)
  • Preparing stage 2 jailbreak data (do not touch your device)
  • Injecting stage 2 jailbreak data (Step 1/3)
  • Injecting stage 2 jailbreak data (Step 2/3)
  • Injecting stage 2 jailbreak data (Step 3/3)
  • Uploading Cydia
  • Uploading Cydia packages list

Please wait patiently while the jailbreaking process is running, don’t start iTunes or Xcode in the meanwhile. The process may take 5 minutes.

Step 6: Once the process is complete, you will get a message informing you to unlock your iPod touch. Do not close the evasi0n application.

Step 8: Unlock your iPod touch and then tap on the Jailbreak app (the one with the evasi0n icon).

Step 9: When you launch the Jailbreak app, the screen will go black for a second and exit. Don’t worry, this will start the next stage of the jailbreak process.

Step 10: The tool will again give you progress update on the next stage of the jailbreak process  such as:

  • Remounting data
  • Root filesystem successfully remounted
  • Injecting final jailbreak data

Step 11: Once it is done, it will give a message informing you that the “Jailbreak complete! The device may restart a few times as it completes the process”.

Step 12: The rest of the jailbreak process will now take place on your iPod touch. You will see the evasion logo on your iPod touch with the status as the jailbreak process is going on such as Patching kernel, loading Cydia, Rebooting, Initializing offsets, Cleaning up…, Done! Continuing boot.

Note: The Patching kernel step can take a long time. Some readers have reported it taking as much as 18 minutes, so please be patient.

Step 13: After your iPod touch has rebooted, you’re done. It has been successfully jailbroken and you should be able to find the Cydia icon on the home screen  (it may not be on the first page so search for it to locate it). You may see a Weather app that keeps crashing, ignore it for now. It looks like it was a hidden app that becomes visible after the jailbreak process.

Please note if the process gets stuck in the middle, it’s safe to restart the process, hardware reset your iOS device (if necessary by holding down Hold and Home until it shuts down), and rerun the process.

Note: evad3rs dev team had strongly recommended upgrading to iOS 6.1 doing a full restore using iTunes. So if you had upgraded to iOS 6.1 using the OTA option or using iTunes and are having problems jailbreaking your iOS device with evasi0n, then try doing a full restore using iTunes and then try jailbreaking again to see if it works.

After the jailbreaking process is complete, do not forget to checkout our article on tips to keep your iPod touch secure.

If you’re new to the jailbreaking world and wondering what to do after jailbreaking your iPod touch, checkout our jailbreak apps category page to find out the apps you can install on your iPod touch using the Cydia app.
